I am told that last Saturday was the most popular day this year to have a wedding. I can see why. Apart from never forgetting the day you were married, no on else will either. It really is fun to get married on a special date for your special day. Even I got married on 07-07, but not in 2007. However, I didn’t plan it that way on purpose.

Icing on the Cake Events coordinated a marvelous wedding this weekend of weekends for weddings. It was held in Paradise Valley, MT at Luccock United Methodist Church Camp. Nestled in the Abasorka mountians, this is any bride’s dream spot with the mountains rising out of seemingly nowhere, and the wild flowers in bloom, everything green, and snow. Yes, snow. It actually snowed on Saturday. And though I’d love to call it karma for picking this date, it really was just spring in Montana.

However, the snow in no way dampened the effect of a beautiful wedding. Though we have no pictures to post this instant, some will be coming soon!

The bride and groom chose Brown and Pink as their color palette, which was very fitting for the bride, as she is a pink fan. Gerbers were her main flower of choice, and they accented everything including the centerpieces, bouquets, gift table and reserved seating cards. Bridesmaids were in brown dresses with pink sashes and groomsmen were in brown tuxes (very classic for a semi-casual outside wedding) with pink vests and ties.

We didn’t have too much planning involvement in this wedding as we were asked to help later in the planning process, but we were able to pull off what the bride had already chosen for her wedding. The wedding was fun and even though it snowed and rained and we had to pull the wedding inside, we were able to make it as beautiful as she wanted it to be.

Here at Icing on the Cake, we’ve been focused on how to make your wedding more green. Of course, there are lots of ways this can be accomplished. But, I happened to see an article on Kirtsy that will give you some more ideas.

Many environmentally conscious brides are thinking about turning their wedding green. So here are some helpful hints. We’ll have more to come on how to turn your wedding bliss into green bliss…without spending the real green.

Ok, so you know you’re getting married, but the etiquette of it all has you so confused. Let me tell, your etiquette is important in some parts of your wedding, but can leave you tired and worn out afterwards. Look at it this way, if it’s important to you, it’s important to the wedding. If you don’t care, skip it. However, here’s some things you should highly consider before skimping on the etiquette:

1) Are you cutting anyone out? Consider WHO you’re cutting out. If you are planning on not having assigned seating at the reception, does that mean that mom and dad are going to get stuck in the back on accident because you’re doing pictures and everyone will have been seated already? Are grandma and grandpa going to be at a table where they can’t see anything? But if it’s oh, your college friends aren’t going to all be at the same table…you’re probably not going to hurt too many feelings. Another example, so you don’t want corsages or boutonnières? This might take away from your wedding party and family members feeling recognized and important. That doesn’t mean that we can’t come up with another way to make them feel like they are part of this most important day.

2) Consider the flexibility of each idea. If you are making every aspect of your ceremony and reception fit to the traditional etiquette of a wedding, it might change the flexibility and functionality of your wedding. If you HAVE to have a receiving line after the ceremony, but your reception site is right next door? How feasible is this? Or what happens if you want to take pictures afterwards, and your guests just want to be seated or start the cocktail hour. It is a hard, etiquette-filled transition between the ceremony and the reception. A lot of couples make the mistake of cramming too many things in between and making their guests hungry, thirsty, cranky (children), or many guests will just leave. Yes, it is your wedding, but we know you want to see and talk to each guest because you did invite them for a reason.

These are just a couple of things to keep in mind as you begin to tailor wedding traditions to your dreams for a beautiful wedding.
